Bluwater bistro at Leschi ★★★★☆Nestled down the hill from Seattle proper on Lake Washington, you’ll find a comfy little area in Seattle called Leschi. Quaint shops and yoga studios line the streets until you come to Bluwater Bistro.
On one side, Bluwater Bistro has fantastic views of the lake and Mount Rainier and on the other side a garden oasis—your own secret garden in the metropolitan area. It’s my favorite spot to go for brunch on Sunday mornings. With specials on mimosas and bloody mary’s and a food line-up that won’t disappoint, this place is a must! The food is a traditional bistro with classics such as eggs benedict (ham or crab), brioche french toast (the special changes regularly), and chicken fried steak with eggs. Come ready with your stretchy pants or be prepared to ask for a doggie bag. These dishes are plenty big to have some left overs or share with a friend or significant other. |
When my friends and I walked in, the hostess kindly greeted us and asked us if we preferred the outside patio, a booth with a lake view, or outdoor seating on their dock. All three options seemed like a great option. Since the dock seating only accommodated small parties of 4 or less and there were 6 of us, we decided to sit in their garden patio.
As the sun twinkled through the trees there were beautiful arrangements of pink flowers on every table, neatly stacked plates and napkins, and a privacy hedge that welcomed us. Shortly after we were seated the waitress came out with warm banana bread and pointed us to their brunch staples—under $5 mimosas and bloody mary’s.
Coming back with our drinks, the waitress said, “Have you had a chance to look through the menu? Our special for today is french toast with a freshly made strawberry compote.”
We all ordered. I had the chicken fried steak. I’m a mid-westerner from Illinois with family in Fort Worth. So, I grew up on any and everything with gravy. Biscuits and gravy are my absolute favorite. Since they didn’t have biscuits and gravy, I went for the next best thing—something with gravy—chicken fried steak.
It was pretty good. The gravy was comparable to any place serving gravy in Seattle. They did do something that I was pretty shocked at though. They paired it with mashed potatoes. Instead of a side of country potatoes that came with everyone else’s meals, this came with the chicken fried steak on top of a heaping scoop of mash. The mash potatoes weren’t bad, matter of fact, they were really creamy, well mixed, and seasoned very well. I would have been happy until I tasted my friend’s country potatoes. Needless to say, the emerald city reviewer became green with envy.
Overall, my experience at Bluwater Bistro was great! The location was the best part of the experience. With the service closely coming next. Finally, while the food wasn’t Micheline star, it was well worth it.
